So, filming this video was, obviously, very very fun. In honor of Oktoberfest, which is actually celebrated in September, Katie Quinn of qkatie and I decided to do a beer tasting. (You can check out her reviews of “normal” Oktoberfest brews with this video here: https://youtu.be/a7Qt4VEPlkQ)
We headed to Paris St. Biere right down the street from my apartment in Paris where they have over 2,000 beers!! …and a very nice gluten-free selection at that.
I ended up selecting five gluten-free beers I was curious about: 3 from the Belgium producer Mikkeller and another blonde from Belgium along with an organic Quinoa beer from France. To net it out, the Mikkellers were all fabulous, two of them being my favorites from the tasting, and the Quinoa was a very lonely sad disappointment in the back.
…not that it’s horrible in and of itself, but if you’re looking for a beer, it’s far from it.
We geeked out a bit on our tasting. To avoid complete subjectivity with our reviews, and to also convey more accurately what we tasted to you guys, we divided the beers into 6 different tasting notes, with another review of just how much we liked the beers. All rating are on a scale of 1-5, with the exception of the alcohol just being the percentage.
To sum it up, I was super surprised how great these gluten-free beers were. Not even just for gluten-free, but in general.
Tied in 1st: “American Dream” and “I Wish” from Mikkeller
3rd: “Grisette” from St-Feuillien
4th: “Peter, Pale and Mary” from Mikkeller
5th: “Quinoa” from Altiplano
Annnnd, the details:
If you’re in Paris, make sure to check out Paris St. Bière in the 11th arrondisement.
Check out Katie’s video and channel (very fun to watch) & don’t forget to celebrate Oktoberfest soon — it’s in September, baby!
